Fit for Work Program

Our first program of the year was through the local PCYC group in Pine Rivers. Our Fit for Work Program was designed to enrolled young teens aged 15-18 who had to drop out of high school in order to help give them a head start finically by teaching strong work and hospitality skills. Every week the young group would come to the Street Care kitchen a generously donated by the GreenHive Kitchen for our program, to help make the meals that our volunteers hand every week under the supervision of our volunteer Chef who had over 6 years of running a restaurant in Brisbane. The teens were taught basic cooking skills, food handling and safety, team working skills and work ethic.

Over ten weeks the teens made incredible food for our Street Friends and paired with the PCYC’s Get Set for Work program learned valuable resume writing skills, interview skills and Word. Our intake consisted of 12 teens, working in biweekly sessions at the kitchen. All teens put in amazing efforts and at the end we were able to see several successful applicants well prepared for the start of their work experiences. Street Care strives not just to provide care to our Street Friends doing it tough, but also strive to great programs aimed at reducing the risks in disadvantaged groups and uplift people above their current situation. This was a great first program of the year and we are excited to see what the future will bring!
