Our First Outreach at Wickham Park

Street Care had its first day at Wickham Park. It was still dark as the tables were being set up and the jackets were being hung up, but our volunteers were amazing and by 7am we were ready! We got to meet some of the regular Street Friends who come every Saturday to see Orange Sky and the Coffee Brigade. there was an amazing charming man who quickly made everyone laugh with his dad jokes, and a regular older gentleman who still comes down for a chat after he was able to get off the streets a month prior.

The jackets were given away very quickly as there were a lot of cold people who lined up, and for those who couldn’t find what they were looking for, we wrote down requests. We believe in providing all encompassing care, so requests were taken for their specific individual needs and we will provide what they need the next week come. It was an understanding experience as the people opened up about why they needed specific items. For the women we talked to, it was a need for baby wipes as access to showers are very limited throughout the week, or for some of the older gentle men, it was medical supplies for the injuries on their feet and legs.

People were overjoyed to learn that we would be there every week, and it is our dedication to do so. We want our Street Friends to trust that we will be there every week to support them and to keep them warm….
