Why we care….
It all begins with an idea. A passion to help make the world a little brighter, to spread little more love to the world and to make a difference to the community you live in.
Street Care was created because of two women, who worked side by side in Wa in another charity called Street Friends Wa. This charity was founded by Michelle Dunlop 14 years ago and Tasheena Freeman was able to volunteer with her for over a year. Michelle Dunlop spent years growing Street Friends from the start when she went into the city by herself to hand out provisions to the homeless population in Perth city and grew it into a charity that now helps over 200 people every week.
After Tasheena moved to Queensland, she saw that there was a need to help the homeless population here in Brisbane city as the housing crisis grew and there were more people then ever who are living on the street and Tasheena contacted Michelle to bring the model of Street Friends across the states of Australia and adapt to the needs of the Brisbane community. At Street Care we believe that everyone deserves to have their basic needs met and to be treated with compassion and respect. Street Care was started to create a community space in order to provide this holistic care to those in need and will provide respect and compassion to our street friends for many years to come.
